Visiting St. James

What to expect when you visit St. James UCC

To all, we extend a warm and friendly “Welcome” to the St. James United Church of Christ in Limerick, Pennsylvania.

Our worship services begin at 10:15 on Sunday mornings (9:30 in the summer months.) When you join us in worship, in person or on Facebook, you will find each service has its own theme centered around the Biblically-based messages. In the UCC, we believe that God is Still Speaking, so we focus on how to be in a talking and listening relationship with God. We have an eclectic music program, blending favorite hymns with more contemporary ones, and welcoming monthly guest musicians – from a high school choir to violinists to trumpeters. We have communion once a month. After worship, we love to stay after for coffee and snacks and friendly conversation.

No matter where you are in your journey of faith, you are welcome to “Come and See.” All are welcome!

You may have questions before your first visit so we listed answers to frequently asked questions and what you can expect to find at St. James United Church of Christ in Limerick, Pennsylvania.

You say, “All are Welcome.”  What does that mean?

Everyone is welcome at St. James United Church of Christ. We are conveyors of the good news and believe that all people are created in the image of God. No ifs, ands or buts. We welcome all ages, genders, sexual orientations, marital statuses, classes, ethnicities, and physical and mental abilities.

What happens during worship?

Worship is a time to place ourselves in the presence of God. We do this by lifting our voices in songs of praise, reading the scriptures, addressing God through prayer, listening to sermons, and opening our hearts to God’s word and world. When you enter, a friendly greeter will warmly welcome you and give you a bulletin to guide you through the service.

Communion is celebrated on one Sunday of each month and shared with all who wish to receive it. The table where Christ is the host is a completely open one – EVERYONE is welcome, regardless of beliefs, membership status or anything else. We do this to remember the meal shared between Christ and His disciples.

As a traditional Christian practice, we receive financial offering to support the church’s ministries. We welcome your gifts and encourage everyone to live a life marked by generosity.

How about children?

Children and families of all configurations are welcome and cherished at St. James United Church of Christ! All children are welcome with their parents to join us for worship! Or, if you wish, younger children and their parents are welcome to share in the worship service from the comfort of our parlor, where the service can still be seen and heard.

What should I wear?

Wear what makes you comfortable, it matters more that you come for worship and fellowship. Some people dress in their Sunday best and others dress casually. Beginning in June, when the weather is warm and pleasant, we move our Sunday worship to 9:30 and gather outside in the pavilion. If it gets too warm and uncomfortable, we move worship to the air-conditioned sanctuary. In the summer months, just plan accordingly.

How long is worship?

Worship usually runs from an hour to an hour and 15 minutes.

What happens after worship?

We invite you to stay awhile and enjoy a light snack and beverage! This is a perfect time for fellowship, catching up with friends, friendly conversation, and making new friends!

Do you offer Bible Study for adults?
